Mohegan Sun, one of the largest casinos in the world, is planning to expand further. The $740 million expansion will add to the casino a new hotel, music hall, restaurants, shopping, gaming and poker room.

The highlight of the expansion is the new 1,000-room hotel which will feature 300 rooms with a House of Blues theme.

115,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space will also be added plus the new 64,000 square-foot Casino of the Wind.

Additionally, Mohegan Sun also expects to draw in more Asian patrons with the addition of the new Casino of the Earth.

Mohegan Sun is expected to open in two phases, with the 700 rooms opening in the spring of 2010, while the 300 House of Blues themed rooms will open in that year’’s summer.

Construction for the expansion is set to start in the summer of next year. 1.4 million square feet of space will be added all in all.

As far as the gaming equipment goes, the total number of slot machines at the Mohegan Sun is expected to rise to 7,600 units, plus 385 table games.

The new Casino of the Wind, scheduled to open spring of 2008, will be constructed adjacent to the Casino of the Sky. The Asian themed casino will include 42,000 square-feet of gaming space.
